For the 2025/26 season, age groups are determined by birth year.
US Youth Soccer has decided nationally to move to an age group player formation cycle that runs from August 1 to July 31, starting with the 2026/27 season. Instead of the current use of birth year-based teams, the new age groupings will closer correspond with school grades.
US Youth Soccer CEO Tom Condone addressed the adjustment to the registration process: “At US Youth Soccer, our mission is to support the development of every player. After careful collaboration with our partners and listening to our membership, we believe this shift to an August 1 player formation cycle better aligns with school calendars, supports social and individual needs, and ultimately enhances the youth soccer experience for families across the country.”
2026/27 Age Brackets
Age Groups will be determined by birth date, not grade. Although the new age brackets will closely correspond with school grades, they do not precisely match.
Younger players may play in an older age bracket to closer match their grade or skill level. We currently do not know if UYSA will approve any waivers for players to play down into a younger age bracket that corresponds with their school grade.
